The Snake Park and Children’s Park

The Snake Park and Children’s Park is a part of the Guindy National Park, which is stretched in an extended area of 2.82 km². Located in Chennai, the park offers the best destination to the tourists visiting Chennai with a love of Flora and Fauna. It is one of the very few national parks to be situated in the city. The park offers beautiful views of beautiful forests, scrub lands, lakes and streams. At present it is under the Tamil Nadu Forest Department.

The Snake Park and Children’s Park is the location of Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and is located just next to the Guindy National Park. It is more fancied among children as it offers the scope of viewing King Cobra, pythons, vipers and other reptiles and mammals. The park was formerly a location of the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust. The park is stretched into an area of 22 acres and has been carved out has been renovated as children’s park and play area towards the northeast corner. Towards its north east portion the park holds a collection of different species of animals and birds.

The animals in the Snake Park and Children’s Park include sambar, black buck, porcupine, hyena, spotted deer, jackal, python, night heron, grey pelican, mongoose, cormorant, cockatiel, common langur and bonnet monkey. The snake park and children’s park is divided into two parts with separates entrances and separate entrances and independent entry fees. Drinking water, vendors and catering is also available inside the park.

The bio diversity of the park has newly interpreted and the entry into this protected reserve is strictly prohibited. The visitors are allowed to visit the core area only in company of the Forests Department official with a forest ranger. The visitors visiting the park with cameras are separately charged. Several other species in the park include star turtle, lizards, geckos, chameleons as well as a large variety of insects and butterflies are available here for tourist attraction.
