After Gilbert Rodericks passed away in the year 182, the government of Tamil Nadu purchased it for the lump some amount of thirty five thousand rupees. In the year 1910, the place got recognition as reserved forests. Then Jawaharlal Nehru declared a part of the Guindy forest as children's park. These include shrubs, herbs, grasses, and climbers. There are about twenty four types of tress in this national park of Chennai. These include Atlanta Monoplylla, Azadirachta India, and Amona Squamosa.
This part is also the home of several wild animals like Rare Indian Antelope, River otter, Bonnet Monkey, Jackals, Hedgehog, white bucks, common mongoose, and Hyena. Birds living in the Guindy National Park include buzzard, Crow Pheasant, Blue Faced Malkoha, Red Wattled Lapwing, Shrikes, pariah kite, Munias, Parakeets, Tailor Birds, Quails, Flycatcher, and black winged kite. This park remains open on all the days of the week, except on Tuesdays. Every day the park opens at nine o'clock in the morning and closes at 5.30 in the evening.

The Crocodile park is also one of the national parks in Chennai. Visit this park in Chennai to see different species of crocodiles lying around the poolside. With Mugger or Marsh variety of crocodiles, there are about seven thousand inmates in the Chennai Crocodile bank. It is also the home of Mexico's Morlet's crocodile, and Africa's Dwarf crocodile.
